White-Williams Scholars: Scholar Services

Scholar Services

Scholar Services is the umbrella initiative that represents all of the programs, workshops, and information distribution available for stipend-receiving scholars. White-Williams Scholars has introduced Scholar Services in order to expand its supplementary programming to all stipend-receiving scholars. Workshops and trips are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Students who provide us with their email addresses at the time of their application are automatically added to a distribution list for scholarships, academic programs, and other resources.

Back on Track Program

BOT is the newest service offered to stipend-receiving scholars. While White-Williams Scholars are high-achieving students who maintain A's and B's in their classes, students sometimes encounter an exceptionally difficult course that causes them to lose their academic eligibility for the program. We began the BOT initiative during the '08-'09 academic year to assist those students in their effort to raise their grades and regain their eligibility for the program. Students are offered free tutoring at the White-Williams Scholars office on a biweekly basis; they also receive a portion of their stipend if they complete ten hours of tutoring within a marking period. The intent is that all students in the BOT program will be "back on track" within one marking period.

College Exploration Workshop

WWS is partnering with a team of undergraduates from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business management class for 11th and 12th grade students who would like to find out more about the process of searching, applying for admission, and ultimately selecting the best college to fit their needs.

Financial Aid Workshops

Each year PHEAA, in conjunction with the School District of Philadelphia, offers city-wide FAFSA workshops for students and their families. White-Williams Scholars program staff will help facilitate and advertise one or more of these workshops.

Lenfest Scholarship

Made possible by the generosity of the Brook J. Lenfest Foundation, the scholarship is open to White-Williams Scholars seniors who are applying for admission to Penn State University Park Campus or Temple University. Recipients receive full financial assistance to the universities for up to five years. The application process for this competetive scholarship begins with a mandatory information session in early October, and concludes with selected applicants being interviewed in February for a March decision.
