Graduation and Alumni Reunion

2007 Graduation and Alumni Reunion

More than 1500 graduating Scholars, their families, alumni and supporters celebrated the 4th annual Graduation and Alumni Reunion on May 15th at World Café Live. Alumnus and Trustee William Kane received the Alumni Valedictorian Award. Mr. Kane is a member of the WWS Class of 1979 and a partner at Cafferty Faucher, LLP. He challenged students to be true Scholars who measure success not by money or popularity but by how they spend their time and how they treat others. This event "is a celebration of scholarship-a celebration of success despite tremendous challenges," said Mr. Kane.

More than 120 graduating Scholars and their families honored the memory of Alumni Valedictorian Kenneth Pearce. Although Mr. Pearce passed away shortly after being named Valedictorian, his son Kenneth Pearce, Jr. was present to accept his award. The evening was made bittersweet by marking the last Reunion and Graduation for WWS Senior Program Coordinator, Maria Cruz. Maria was thanked by Scholars who consider her a role model, and commended by Executive Director Amy Holdsman for her dedication to her work with the Scholars. School Reform Commission Chair James Nevels and School District of Philadelphia CEO Paul Vallas were also present to honor the graduating Scholars.
